THE "LEAGUE FLAME."
,r "' n / Sir, —My attention lias been drawn to a statement made to the Press by Mr W. J. Hammill with reference to what he terms “The League Elaine” spreading in the North. Mr Hammill states that the public of Whangarei had been very favourably impressed .with the' League exhibition game played last Saturday, and as a result there had been many new adherents to the code and promises of support. The public and Rugby Union players should be made aware of the value of that statement of Mr Hammill’s, and to assist the mto arrive at such, I would state that at a public meeting held subsequent to the “Exhibition game” there were fifteen (15) persons present, some of whom were - not residents of "Whangarei. Mr Hammill also states that Oneralii is putting a team in the field, and I would reply that the Ouerahi footballers held a meeting at which they decided unanimously to play Rugby Union football. Mr Hammill's other remarks are on a par with those I have dealt with, and it is only with a desire to expose this kind of League propaganda, and to let the public know the real position that I have felt constrained to make this statement. I am, etc., L. J. BRAKE! President N.A. Rugby Union.
