OBITUARY
MRS E. J. HAYTON
The death occurred on October 9, at the residence of Mr James Bisset, Opuawhanga, of Mrs Emma Jane Hay ton, at the advanced ago of 91 years. Born in 1831, at Sorrell, in Tasmania, Mrs Hayton was the daughter of Mr William Paterson, eldest sou of Colonel Paterson, an early Governor of Tasmania, and she came to New Zealand about seven years ago, residing with her daughter, Mrs J. Bisset, at Opuawhanga. Mrs Hayton is survived by three daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs Bisset, of Opuawhanga, Mrs Bawden, of Christchurch, and Mrs Ferrald, of Melbourne. Mr A. Hayton, of Moora, W.A., and Mr M. Hayton, of Tasmania, are the sons. ALFRED DENT. 'Consternation and grief were experienced: by his many close friends when the sad news was promulgated this morning that Mr Alfred Dent had unexpectedly expired some time during last night. Mr Dent retired to bed as usual, but this morning it was *found that he had passed quietly away during his sleep. Mr Dent, who was a general favourite by reason of his invariably pleasant and open nature, was born in Whangarei in 1872 and had: resided in the district all his life, being employed at various times by the Borough Council apd engaging in general occupations. The deceased gentleman is survived by two sons and three daughters, all ■of whom arc resident in other parts of New Zealand. One son died several years ago as the result of war injuries.
