The* Whangarei Girls’ Hockey team had an easy victory in tin.* first game beating Auckland B by nine

The annual country week hockey tournament for the White Horse Cup commenced at the Remuera Grounds yesterday afternoon and will continue throughout the week. Four games were played and the contest which attracted the most attention was that between Franklin and Whangarei. It resulted in a win for the former team by one goal.

Playing conditions were ideal, the turf being fast ami springy. There was a fair attendance. Results: —

Section A.—'Tauranga 2 drew with Piako 2; Rodney 12 beat Maniapoto

Section B. —'Franklin 2 ('McNamara 2) beat Whangarei 1 (Sloane); Whakatane beat Thames —I fan raid. c

Whangarei's fixture today is against Whakataiu* at 3 o’clock; L. C. Kent, referee.

The ladies’ annual hockey competition for the Auckland Provincial Cup opened at Remuera yesterday. Six games were played, two in each of the three sections and some interesting play was witnessed. Most games showed a large margin of points in favour of the winners, the closest game being that between Auckland A and Waikato, the former winning by one goal. Results: —

Seetion A.—Whakatane beat Hauraki; Auckland Collegiate 7 beat Franklin B 2.

Section B. Whangarei 0 (Miss Bercich 4, Miss Bartley 3, Miss Cotter 1, Mrs Martin 1) beat Auckland B 1 (Miss Short); Waipa 5 beat Kaipara 0.

'Section G.—Franklin A 6 beat Piako 3; Auckland A 3 beat Waikato

The managers of the ladies’ teams competing in the Auckland Provincial Gup tournament also met, Aliss P. 11. Dawson .presiding.

It was decided not to send teams to the New Zealand tournament, to be held at Timaru in August, but, to send a. team from the associations which desired matches. A dance for members of the combined hockey teams is to be held in yeots Hall tomorrow evening.
