Fire, early on Sunday morning, destroyed the stables of Mr Clarke, a carrier, at Hunterville and severely damaged a tailor’s shop, owned by W. Hodge, and the offices of the Fanners’ Distributing Company, The flames had a strong hold when discovered. As the building was very cld and as dry ns tinder, there was little chance of saving the contents, which' included: Two motor cars, a motor lorry, a motor cycle, several gigs and stable equipment. The firemen were able to keep the flames in cheek and apart from the damage to the premises named there was no further loss, but the loss of Clarke,,Hodge and the Farmers’ is considerable ami covered by insurance. The flames lit up the country for miles around. Despite the early hour, a large crowd gathered and the fire raged for several hours The total damage is estimated at £.>ooo. —Press Assn.
