AID FOR AIRMEN’S DEPENDENTS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln accordance with a general wish, I convened a meeting of citizens iu Wellington for the purpose of raising funds to assist the dependents of those brave airmen, Lieutenant J. B. Moncricff and Captain G. Hood, who gave their lives so that New Zealand might claim the honour of being the first to fly the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand. It is felt that the appeal should be a national one, and with this in view I desire to solicit the cordial co-operation of your paper in the direction of opening a , subscription list, so that donations may be forwarded to you from your district.
So much has been written these last few weeks in regard to the flight that there remains little for me to say, with the exception that I have carefully enquired into the circumstances of the dependents, and find that there is every need for an effort such as this.
Trustees have been appointed to care for the fund in the meantime, and it will be subsequently handed over to the Public Trustee to administer.
I shall be glad to hoar that you have decided to lend your valuable co-ope-ration, and any amounts received as a result of your efforts could be remitted to me if convenient, say, weekly, as arrangements have be6n made until the Public Trustee to pay interest computed daily on all sums paid in.—Yours faithfully, GEO. A. TROUP, Mayor of Wellington.
The "Northern Advocate" is in sympathetic accord with the above request, and contributions paid in at the office in Water Street will be duly acknowledged in the paper and promptly forwarded to the Mayor of Wellington.—Ed. N.A.
