MISSING SUBMARINE
SEPARATED FROM FLOTILLA. 1 ALARM DEPRECATED. (Received 12.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 30. Rear-Admiral Brumsy reported to the Navy Department that submarine S 3 became separated from other submarines of the control force on the 28th inst., 100 miles off Cape IJatteras, since when no communications had been received. Officials of the department .emphasise that this is not unusual during bad weather conditions, and at present there is no cause for anxiety.—A.N.Z.
