A sensation has been caused in the cricket world by the action of the Yorkshire County Club in appointing Herbert Sutcliffe county captain. Sutcliffe remains a professional,—A, and N.Z. LORD HAWKE’S ATTITUDE. LOYALTY TO COMMITTEE. (Received 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, November 2. “Possibly toy old friend Jack Hobbs will- laugh and say I have gone back on my opinion regarding professional captains," said Lord Hawke immediately after Sutcliffe’s election, “but I was'talking of captains of All England, not Yorkshire, which is a different matfer. I am loyal to my committee and don’t dare to pass a personal opinion on' the selection of a professioanl captain;" The committee approached Sutcliffe before he sailed for- South Africa. It is understood that he agreed to accept if his name alone were submitted to the committee.— A. and N.Z.
