ROYAL ACADEMY

A WOMAN ASSOCIATE, FIRST FOR HUNDRED YEARS. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, November 2. New associates of the Royal Academy are Mr Francis Dodd, painter and engraver, and Mrs Laura Knight, who is the first woman associate for over a century. She exhibed first in the Academy in 1903. In 1912 she won gold, silver and bronze medals at South Kensington, and the Princess of Wales scholarship. Mrs Knight has represented public museums at Capetown, Johannesburg, Manchester, Oldham, Brighton, Rochdale and New Zealand, and, also the Carnegie Institute.—A. and N.Z.
