A THRILLING BEGINNING.

(Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, September 23. Mr Charles Levine and Captain Hinehcliffe left today for India. It was a thrilling start. They taxied a mil" before rising and bumped badly, the nose of the 'plane tilting towards the earth.

Hinehcliffe skilfully steadied the machine, soared up triumphantly and departed at high speed. They are carrying 490 gallons of petrol, sufficient for 50 hours. There is no wireless equipment aboard, the aviators fearing that sparks might ignite the: petrol.—A. and N.Z.
