PACIFIC CABLE BOARD
UNUSUAL EXPENDITURE
DOMINIONS HAVE A SAY,
('Received '9 a;m.) LONDON, April 5. The House of Commons is discussing the Pacific Cable Bill in committee. Mr Hartshorn approved its socialistic principles, and Mr Wheatley asked if the board’s capita:! expenditure was in any way limited.
Mr Amery pointed out that the unusual expenditure required the sanction of the Dominion Governments, who did not encourage extravagance. Mr Kirkwood moved to reduce the chairman’s salary from £IOOO to £SOO. He argued that the board only met 10 times yearly for about an 'hour. The debate was adjourned. —A. and N.Z.
