Messrs S. C. Jouimeaux and J. D. McKenzie reached Whangarei by the express from the South this afternoon.
Messrs. W. P. Delamore, of Main’s Avenue, W. D. Hamilton, of Ruatangata, and C. Hanlon and Jos. H. Sloane, of Pukehuia,, l)eft by the south-bound express today. Mr N. Ewart, chief clerk of the mechanical engineers’ department, and Mr W. Thomson, traffic inspector, of the Railways Department, visited Whangarei yesterday and left by today’s South-bound train.
Mr W. H. Horn, exchange officer of the Victorian Forest Commission, is visiting the Whakapara plantation and nursery today in company with Mr Anderson, forest guard, of Puhipuhi. Mr Horn has already visited the principal forest centres in the North.
A Vancouver message says that passengers by the Aorangi, which sailed yesterday, include Sir Mark Sheldon, for Sydney; also the Hon. Ernest Lapointe, Minister of Justice, to represent Canada at the Canberra opening. Mr Lapointe is a powerful statesman and a sparkling orator. He stood aside to permit Mr Mackenzie King to become Premier. Amongst the guests staying at the Settlers’ Hotel arc Mr and Mrs N. Davenport, of Auckland; Air W. Thomson and Mr M. Ewart, of the N.Z. Railway Department; Messrs L. E. and L. J. Ambury, of Raupo; Mr J. Gill, Mr Evans and son, and Mr Massey, all of the Kaipara; Mr Hawdans (sheep dog trials’ judge), Mr C. Butler, of Opotiki; Mr J. B. Ferguson, of Wellington; Air AV, H. Horn, exchange officer of the Victorian Forest Commission; and Mr Allen, . of Auckland; Misses Forsyth and Butcher, of Auckland.
