WARSAW RIOTS
SIGNALISE MAY DAT. - ' • QUIETUDE ELSEWHERE. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, May 2. May Day apparently passed quietly everywhere except in Poland. Warsaw reports state that there were riots between Socialists and Communists.
Mounted police charged the crowd several times three people being killed- and 40 injured. - Communists tried to storm the Town Hall but were dispersed, ■. one being killed and 14 injured.—Reuter. JAPANESE PRECAUTIONS. _ PREVENT DISTURBANCES. (Received 9 a.m.) TOKIO, May 2. Strict precautions were taken against May Day disturbances. The police ordered leading agitators to remain in their homes and under strict police supervision. A procession of twenty thousand people, after passing resolutions in favour of an eight-hour day and other labour reforms, quietly paraded the streets.—A. and N.Z.
