BENEDICTS Y. BACHELORS. A very amusing and interesting match took place at the Reclamation Ground yesterday afternoon, when teams representing the ‘'tied” and “untied” met in a hard-fought contest. The married men were well schooled in the trait of obedience, and it was mainly due to this fact that Skipper Edwards was able to inflict on the free lanees a most decisive rebuke. '

In the single men’s first innings East was the only batsman who succeeded. Ho contributed a valuable .15 to a total of 34. Edwards and Meredith were both at the top of form with the ball, taking 3 for 11 and 5 for 7 respectively. Stephenson (18) and Colthardt (13 not out) made between them all but 10 of the married men’s first innings total of 41. Both batted freely, the former especially showing his fine hitting powers to advantage. The single men again collapsed before the bowling of Meredith and Edwards. The attack of the former proved particularly hard to withstand, and he to('k 6 wickets at a cost of only 24 runs, Wakelin contributed eight singles, and Hooper a bright 15 towards a total of 36.

Tupp showed his usual good form in compiling 44 out of a total of 96 in the married men’s second attempt. He was espeeally at case to the bowling of East, whose slow trundling accounted for eight, wickets at a cost of 64 runs. Boundary hits were the principal scoring medium in the innings of Stephenson (17) and Edwards (12), and the last wicket fell when the score was over 60 runs ahead of the single players’ aggregate.
