AUCKLAND, This Day,

Eighteen seamen, firemen and greasers were charged before Mr E, C. Cutten, S.M., that they were parties to a. strike on the Northern Company's steamer Matangi on January 20, the prosecution being brought by the Inspector of Awards.

1 A claim for £lO was made against ■ each of the defendants, who comprised the whole crew, except a youth of 17, i whom the defendants demanded to be ' put ashore, though he was a financial member of the Seamen’s Union. In the captain's opinion two men, McGuinness and Seaborn, were the ringleaders. MeGuinness had caused a lot of trouble.
