RAILWAY CROSSING INCIDENT.
I BUS DRIVER FINED £lO. WELLINGTON", This Day. Lionel Edward Campbell was prosecuted for attempting to cross the railway ot Pctonc with his motor bus when the line was not clear. Counsel for the Railway Department stated that the crossing was a dangerous one, and defendant did not take the necessary precautions. The engine driver had complained that he had to apply the j emergency brakes to avofd defendant *s I bus, which was crowded with passcn- | gcrs, and a collision was only averted lby a few seconds. [ A railway inspector gave evidence that there was a distance of 220 in which anyone approaching the crossing could see an advancing train. The magistrate, Mr E. Page, impose'd a fine of £lO, stating that Campbell had not taken reasonable precautions. A man in his position must carry out his responsibilities to the public.—Press; Assn. I
