I One thousand excursionists came to the Exhibition yesterday by special train from the Waikaka district, in Southland, and spent a memorable day, in spite, of rain which fell during the seeing ae.. much as they could .in the time at their; disposal of the great,display..
The attendance this morning stood' at 1,666,498.
There is a noticeable influx of visitors to the city in anticipation of the rbig. brass and pipe bands contest, which begins this afternoon. Fortyeight bands from all parts of the Dominion are competing, .ratifying the claim that it will be tfie .hi.ocr e st eontest of its kind yet hf.ld in "New Zea? land. The bands should make a good showing when they mtteter in the jOetogan at one o'clock. They will mnrch through the city to the Ex-hibition-by way of the rnw hif?hwav and then proceed wit'? the B Grade quickstep competition *nr which 14 bands have entered. Guests entertainer! fw thr> directors yesterday included Tonrpqentatives of the Navy League conference, which; was held in Dunedin.
