BEAM WIRELESS
LINKING THE EMPIRE STATIONS NEARING COMPLETION. TELEPHONE EXPERIMENTS. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, February 17. In the House of Commons, asked with which parts of the Empire his department was now in direct wireless communication, Sir W. Mitchell-Thom-son replied that there was at present no two-way communication by Government wireless between Britain and the Dominions, though ho hoped such services plight be established in the current year with Canada, South Africa, India and Australia by means of beam stations now being constructed. The contractors hoped to complete the respective stations for Canada and South Africa ,by April, and for India and Australia by August. As regards one-way communication, there had been for some time a press service between Britain and Nova Scotia. The opening of the Rugby station now enabled broadcasting of messages for reception anywhere in the British Empire.
Experiments in wireless telephony between Britain and Canada were continually proceeding, but it was too much to say that the progress had been satisfactory.—Reuter.
