PRESENTATION

TO MR. A. V. WINCHESTER. A presentation was made yesterday by business people and friends, to Mr. A. V. Winchester, manager of the Bank of Australasia, who has been transferred to Christchurch. Mr. D. W. Jack, who presided, said a few words in appreciation of Mr. Winchester, both as bank manager and as a resident of Whangarei. Ho stressed the fact that the Bank of Australasia was very fortunate in having such capable men as the late Mr. S. J. McCormick and Mr. Winchester.

Several others present also spoke in terms of appreciation of his activities as a resident and of several sports bodies of which he was a keen member. The occasion, at the same time, was made one to welcome Mr. Taylor, Mr. Winchester’s successor, and to express tfie hope that he would be worthy of his predecessor in his business capacity and as a member of the general community.

A presentation of sovereigns was made ’to Mr Winchester, the expression of regard taking this form in order that the recipient might choose something himself, when he reached his clestinatoin, as a memento of his friends in Whangarei.

Mr Winchester replied, expressing Vi is appreciation of the gift and of his pleasure iu his connection with the people of Whangarci. He thanked all sincerely for the token of goodwill which they had made manifest in assembling to say farewell and in making the presentation. Mr Winchester left Whangarei today by motor car for Wellington.
