(Received 9.45 a.m.) PEKIN, August 13. Details of the Tientsin ghooting show that shortly after the withdrawal of the main prolice guard from the cotton j mills a crowd of rioters attacked the I mills ;,and. destroyed much machinery. I- The .strikers were reinforced by | farmers 1 and peasants from neighbour- [ ing villages. The police were helpless aiid over 1,000,000 dollars damage was caused at one'.factory, where the rioters smashed the machinery.

A strong force of police was sent later to round up the rioters, assisteS by military. It is estimated that 803 police and military are guarding ths mills against 10,000 rioters.

An attempt to arrest a number of rioters was resisted. Many of the police were roughly handled. The police fij-ed and an .indescribable seene of confusion and panic ensued.

Unable to get away from the rifles of the police the leading ranks of the rioters turned to fight those behind. Many dropped dead or wounded. Others jumped into the river and were drowned. The total casualties were 60, of whom eight were killed. Several police were wounded, and 376 rioters arrested.—Renter.
