CHANCELLOR COMM -1 a ! i

A group of members of the i: .um> of Commons either born in or ciated with the Dominions, teudc ; d a luncheon to Mr Winston ChurcLiii, Chancellor of the Exchequer, in recognition of the passage of preference.

Sir Newton Moore, presiding, emphasised that building up Empire trade meant mutual safety.

Mr Churchill, replying said it must hove a chilling effect if Parliament failed to endorse the unanimous decision of the Imperial Conference. It would entitle those in the Dominions to ask why they should attend such, a conference. Personally ho believeil there were great possibilities in the consolidation of mutual helpfulness within the Empire. He was confident, irrespective of any protocol, pact or paper arrangement, that the people of the Empire would develop a great spirit of inter-dependence and co-op-eration and stand together in time of stress. He was satisfied that their cooperation was enlisted in a just cause.

The gathering decided to form the nucleus of a group to watch events from the standpoint of Empire development. —A. and N.Z.
