BOROUGH COUNCIL MATTER.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Re the Salvation Army request to the Borough Council for permission to. build a corrugated iron extension, I am sorry, I was reported to have spoken strongly against the concession on the ground of no guarantee to build in brick. Your representative will recall that I asked how we could consider allowing permission in this case when in other recent applications we had refused permission for the same district, or granted a temporary permission only, on condition of a definite undertaking to build in brick. Of all institutions the Salvation Army makes a most unselfish appeal, but, as I thought I pointed out, we must either amend the by-law to allow iron structures, or apply it without favour, upon the same conditions to all applicants. As a matter of fact I have thought for some time the by-law needs reconsideration. —I am, etc., A. T. BRAINSBY.
