PENRITH DAM OVERFLOWS. OBLITERATION FEARED. (Received 11.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. . Floods greater than any experienced hitherto are sweeping across the lowlying country round the Nepean River and at 'Goulburn. The seas are still very rough and vessels are unable to leave shelter. At Goulburn the Wollondilly River is running a banker, the police being compelled to rescue isolated people in flood waters. Quearbeyan, Bungendore arid Tarago also are submerged in parts. The railway line for three-quarters of a mile over the Breadalbane Plain 'is covered, but traffic is not yet affected. The river at the waterworks reached a greater height than at any time during the last 30 years. J. Davidson, a mailman of Burru, "left Queanbean for mails. Later his horse and sulky were found in a creek. Davidson is still missing. At Forbes the Lachlan River lias risen 17 feet. It is expected that the flood will be equally as great as that of 1923, when it rose to 42 feet. The Nepean at Camden is 12 feot above the bridge. The river is still rising at the rate of 10 inches an hour. All the lower reaches round the town are "inundated. Four Tescue boats were kept busy all day on Sunday rescuing .unfortunate occupiers of homes there.

Latest reports from Penrith. State that the position there is ominous. The liver is 30 feet above safety level and is rising at the rate of three feet an Jiour. "The town is in danger of a tr mendous flood cataract, as the dam is overflowing four feet above the spillway into the Nepean. The Hawkesbury River is rising at the r£te of three feet an hour. It is feared that the flood will be immeasurably worse than that' of a. month ago. The bridge at Windsor js submerged to a depth of seven feet. Reports from up country state that the river is still rising. Windsor is entirely cut off. The North Richmond bridge is under eight feet of water and Kurra'jong is cut off. Police are busily engaged in warning residents on the lowlands -and along the river "banks. Large areas of country are submerged. Telegraphic communication south of Goulburn "is very shaky. The Government Meteorologist foi'ecasts further heavy falls of rain and says that t"he likelihood of floods in the north-eastern districts is very pronounced.A. -and N:Z.
