McMillan expedition.

NEW YORK, June 17.
The McMillan expedition, aboard the Peary, mailed from the Charlestown Npvy yard for "Wascasset, Maine, from whence it wffl sail North, accompanied by the schooner Bowdoin, on Saturday. —A. and N.Z.
The President of the United States, Mr Calvin Coofidge, recently approved the proposal of the Arctic explorer, Captain McMillan, for the exploration with tie assistance of Government aircraft of the region between Alaska nnd the North Pole in the hope of finding the Arctic continent, long believed to exist thereabouts. It is said to be the only remaining "blind spot" on the map of the North, comprising about 1,000,0fi0 square miles of unexplored territory The McMillan expedition is a private one, but the Government of
the United States will co-operate to the extent tLat the Navy Department will assign pilots and will loan two planes of the amphibian type having a cruising range of over 1000 miles and a speed ox ISO miles an hour. In charting -the region from the air and in taking observations of temperatures in the upper air and in other ways Captain McMillan believes that, more m :,y be accomplished from the scientific point of view than ever before. The expedition will also be equipped with a
cinematograph apparatus and wireless,
By means of the latter it is. hoped that listeners-in in the United States will
be able to hear the sounds of Esquimaux singing. Wans, have also been inade tc explore the ancient Norse ruins in Labrador and Greenland. The ex'pedhion will probably start on June 15..
