The whale lias 404 teeth, 202 in oach jaw. Each tooth is (it't Bin long and is *>in wide at the end. this increasing to a width of .12 inches to 14 inches at the gum. The teeth are ;! of an inch thick. It is estimated that the teeth will produce? about licwt of whalebone. When stripped of the bone and blubber, estimated to be worth about £000, the rest of the carcase, which is useless to the whalers, will weigh about HO tons. The whale is one of the biggest ever captured in Cook Strait.
