INTERNATIONAL CONTESTS.
CARR DISTINGUISHED

BERLIN, August 24
Ten thousand spectators witnessed the greatest international athletic, contests since the war.
In the 100 metres race Houben (Germany Avas first, Carr (Australia) second arid Porritt (New Zealand) third. Time —10 n-osee. Houben beat the pistol by a metre, but was not recalled. Carr drew' level at (50 metres and made a. great effort, failing by a yard.
In the 200 metres race Carr was first. Ivreuger and Rappard, both Germans, were second and third respectively. Carr led all the way. Time—2l 4-ssec.
Carr and. Porritt were enthusiastically received. —A. and N.Z.
