LABOUR PARTY'S CONCERT.

LARGELY xITTENDED. A concert was held in the Criterion Theatre on "Wednesday by the Hikurangi branch of the Labour Party. The hall was well filled, the attendance being about 500. The programme opened with an overture by the.Hikurangi Brass Band. Kiss Jean Hamilton sang "Bonnie 'Mary of Argyle" and was encored. Mr D. Cochrane sang "My Sunny Tennessee," and for an encore number "One Fleeting Hour." Mr Duncan McLennan gave an exhibition of sword dancing and Irish jigs, the encore being in exhibition by one of his pupils, Miss Mona Lilley, who was warmly applauded. M,r Primrose, Pipe Major of the Whangarei Pipe Band, played the accompaniments for the Scottish dances. Mr James Melntyre sang "A wee lioosr- among the heather," and as 'in encore, "She's the lass for me." Mr McDonald recited "Kissing Cup" and also "Lasea," which, was highly appreciated. Mr AY. R. Harris followed with several comic items, being vociferously encored. Mrs Sparks played all the accompaniments very efficiently.

After the second half of the programme, which was thoroughly enjoyed, Hr McDonald on behalf of the Labour Party thanked the audience for tkeir attendance and remarked that, judging by the applause which the artists had received, everyone must have had an enjoyable evening. Dam-ing then commenced and was continued until midnight EUCHRE PARTY. At the euchre tourney held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday night Mrs J. ■ Hamilton was successful in winning the ladies' prize and Mr E. McDonald the men's. There was a very good attendance.
