NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS. OFFSETTING ROAD COMPETITION. WELLINGTON, This Day. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Railways, announces that in consequence of the loss occasioned the railways by road competition he has decided to institute a commercial branch on the transportation side, under officers whose duty it will be to encourage use of the railways by offering facilities to the Department's clients. Mr. D. Rodie, Traffic Manager at Invorcargill, is being transferred to Wellington to take charge of the new branch.
