PRESS UNION URGING. WELL RECEIVED. (Received 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 23. Viscount Burnham introduced a deputation from the Empire Press Union to Sir L. Worthington Evans. It was representative of all the Dominions. Its members urged the pressing forward of tho Imperial wireless service. Sir L.Worthingtton Evans said that the question was one of national and imperial importance. It was imperative to evolve a workable commercial scheme. He denied that there had been unnecessary delays. The points at issue should be settled within a month, after which there would be nothing to prevent the erection of a high-pow.M 1 station, which should be operative within 12 to IS months. The Government's object in present negotiations over licenses was to secure enterprise with the minimum of Government control. He hoped that the wireless rate would always be lower than c:>blc rates, though there would doubtless be competition.—A. and N.Z.
