PREMIERS' CONFERENCE.
IMPORTANT PROPOSALS. £2000 TAXATION MINIMUM. (Eeceived Noon.) PEETH, This Day. Mr S. M. Bruce, Federal Prime Minister, in :outlining the proposals for the Premiers' Conference, said that the Commonwealth was proposing to withdraw from the field of taxation where ineomes were less than £2000. The leeway would be made up by taxing excess of incomes over £2000 at a rate applicable to the whole amount of income. No tax-free loans were to be issued in future A council of Federal and State Treasurers would be appointed for co-ordination of public borrowing. Mr Bruce added that it would be proposed that Anz&c Day be observed as a national holiday on April 25. The Commonwealth Government was providing £500,000 for the States, oh .a pound,for pound basi*, for the national main road development, and steps were being taken to encourage cotton production.—A. and N!Z.
