The letter was received, the balances having been bought. APPOINTMENT OF A JANITOR The cleaner at the school, who had htld that position for seven years, forwarded her resignation, and it was suggested that the board should call for tenders to fill the vacancy but Mr Crawford said that as there was a likelihood of the board taking possession of the property bought from Mr Weaver very shortly the board would probably need to engage a man permanently and he proposed that the chairman, with Mr K-shworth and tie principal, Mr R. Lupton, should go into the question of a successor and report to the next board meeting. Mr Cruickshank suggested that applications should be called without delay for a man to undertake the work required at the school including the cleaning. After some discussion anent the ;luties required and embracing a suggestion that an effort should be made to get a man who would subsequently take on the janitor's position it was decided, on Mr Cruickshank's motion, to leave tho appointment to the Finance Committee. ENDOWMENT TIMBER In connection with the dead timber on the Otaika endowment which it wa» proposed to sell Mr Crawford suggested that an area should be defined from which the timber was to be sold, and that the board advertise it for. sa'e. Mr Harington added that a surveyor should also go there and mark off on the plans where the timber was. Mr X. M. McKay had reported in 1913 that the timber was very scattered and was small, generally speaking. He reported specifically upon various areas and stated that there were thousands o£ tons of firewood.
