A HALT AT PAPAROA.
TOWNSHIP EN FETE
(Special to- "Northern Advocate.") PAPAROA, This Day.
The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, with Lady Jellicoe, passed through the township yesterday en route ito (the train at Huarau, after the opening ■ceremony at Tirouiison's Kauri Park, Kaihu. The party reached here by motor about noon and made a brief stoppage at the residence of Mr E. G. Aiken, county clerk. The public school children who lined the road were addressed by Lord Jellicoe, who granted them a holiday.
Lady Jellicoe was presented with a bouquet and an address of welcome was mad» on behalf of the County Council and residents by Mr Rodney Coates, county chairman. The Governor responded in a happy speech. He expressed thanks for the hospitality and kindness of the residents find regretted thit his stay was so brief.
Hesrty chcers were given ns 'the party resumed their journey by train. It was ideal weather for the morning run.
The event was almost unique, being the first occasion of the visit of a Governor to the district for 49 years. Sir F. D. Bell rind the private secretaries were also with the party.
