RURAL MAILS.
AN IMPOKTANT CHANGE.
FEES CUT IN HALF.
(Special to "Northern Advocate,") WELLINGTON, This Day. The Postmaster-General has been -/pressed from all parts of the House ; since his new scheme of rural mail •deliveries was announced, early in the session, and he announced yesterday that in response to representatioo he '.had decided to reduce the compulsory •contributions by 50 per cent. The loss •on the present rural deliveries was «fcibout £5000 yearly, and his department. ~iad in hand 1200 applications for addi--tional deliveries. He had considered the question from r every standpoint, he said, and he thought he was justified in recommend:ing the Government the charge ,£1 for daily delivery and 10s for tri"weekly delivery, as against £2 and £1 respectively,, in his original scheme. 'iThis would mean that there would be no loss, and that he would be able to •deal with the applications in hand. If -any settlers had signed up at the high»er rate they would obtain a refund.
