ANNEXED BY HIKURANGI.
Yesterday afternoon on tEe Whangsrei Bowling Club's green the most interesting games were challenge matches between two teams from HikuranJji and Whangarei Club defenders of the Swann Cup. The local players went , down badly, and both defending teams were soundly beaten, the Hikurangi players taking the trophy away with, them in triumph to be added to the White Cup, which was alao won from Whangarei recently. C. H. Chissell (skip), E. A. Simmons, J. Tremain and W. Nutsford were decisively defeat* ed by J. M. McKenzie (skip), R. Cherrie, J. Eutherford and A. Rust by 25—9, after a game in which the def9nding skip got little assistance from his team with the exception of the lead. In the other game, J. Courtney (skip), M. P. Eang, A. McLelland and J. Maurer held their own well until the tea adjournment against G. Coutts (skip), C. Brown, E. Paton, and G. Paine, but after that they fell away and the Hikurangi challengers won by 25—17.
Other matches played included a challenge game for the Ferns,' which P. Coburn (skip), W. Thompson, B. Drew and K. G-. M. Kelly won from N. Mackenzie (skip), E. Logan, Somerville and F. O. Massey by 20—17, and an ineffective attempt by V. Beeston and F. GL Radcliffe to wrest the Roosters from. T. Middleton and A. Gr. Mackenzie. __ Some club competition games were played, including the Champion Singles, in which Inglis beat King 21 —14. On. Tuesday P. Judd beat F. Cutforth in a splendid game in which they tied on. the 21st head with 19. Then Judd made dead-heads of the 22nd and 23rd and lay two on the 24th head.
