CLOTHIERS v. TOBACCONISTS.
Yesterday afternoon the first of th& Thursday \ cricket matches between teams representative of the various was played at Weaver's paddock between the tobacconists and the clothiers. The game attracted a goodly number of spectators,- and provided them and the players with a most enjoyable half-holiday. The wicket was good and the weather conditions ideal. In the first innings the tobacconists scored 47 runs, of which total Charles notched 22, Tupp 6 and Purchase 4. Rodgers and McLean divided the bowling honours. The clothiers retaliated with 54, B. McLean scoring 34, W. Rodgers 9 and R. Dempster 5. Larking, Charles, Abbott and Tupp were the effective*trundlers. In the second innings the tobacconists were all out for 32 (Tupp $. McKay 8, Over 5) and the clothiers had scored 84 for three wickets in their second effort when stumps wora drawn. A. Jack 38, and R. McLean ?6 were the "not outs" for the clothiers, who won the match on the first innings by seven runs.
