MEETINC* OF COUNTY COUNCIL

ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN

An ordinary meeting of the Bay of Islands County Council was held at Kawakawa on Wednesday: present—Mr H. H. Mountain (chairman.!, Councillors A. E. Bissett, H. M. Cookson- T.. Hedley, J. W. F. Jones, W. C. Mountain, C.~ Nisbet, J. G- Ritchie and H. S. Robinson.

After correspondence had been dealt with the annual meeting was held the County Clerk presiding.

On the motion of Cr. Bisset, seconded by Cr. fledley, Mr H. H. Mountain was re-elected chairman.

Mr Mountain took the chair, thanking members for his election, and the ordinary meeting was resumed.

Upper Punakitere Valley Road. — On the motion of Cr. Jones, seconded by Cr. Robinson, it was resolved that the (Council proceed with the survey of the Upper Punakitere Valley Road deviation.

Waitangi River Floating License. — The Council agreed to the reduction of the bond to be entered into by Messrs King Bros., in respect of their timber, floating license for Waitangi River- to £1000.

Taumarere Railway Station. —The 'Council granted permission to the Railway epartment to erect a fence at Taumarere railway station, taking in portion of a county road. Disinfection of Premises. —The Council agreed to the proposed scale of charges for disinfecting premises, as contained in a letter from the Medical Officer of Health.

Oetzmann's Road. —Cr. Hedley moved that the Council agree to pay Mr IC. D. Yorke the sum of £7 10s on receipt of a' certificate from the road inspector that work to the value of £15 had been completed by him on Oetzmann's Top Road. The motion was seconded by iCr. Bisset and carried. ' 'Ramarama Road- —In connection with a report concerning Ramarama Road, it was resolved that the Whangarei Timber Company be notified to repair immediately the damage "done to bridges and culverts on the Ramarama road, and also to fascine and fill in the bad holes on Christie's Flat, and to remove the planks put on the bridges for the purpose of carrying: the timber traffic, such planks to be replaced before the re. commencement of carting in the spring; also that Company open up all water-tables and drains that have been filled in or destroyed before starting carting again. ; Slaughterhouse Licenses.—The applications of Mr T. Hedley and Mr M. J. Whitelaw for renewal of slaughterhouse licenses were granted. Auctioneer's License. — The application of Mr (Burlinson for an auctioneer's license was granted- ■ Paihia Roads—The engineer was instructed to report~to the next meeting upon the application of Messrs Hunt and Sandfbrd with regard to necessary formation at the Paihia Church Mission subdivision. Tapuhi-Tirahonga Road. —'On the motion of Cr. Hedley, seconded by Cr. Bisset, it W£fe resolved that' the Council expend the balance of timber halves and thirds f to the extent of £50. on the Tapuhi-Tirahonga road, and that the amount be forwarded to the Public Works Department with a request that it should undertake the expenditure whilst its present gang wa s working on the road. (Maintenance of Main Road—-Cr. Jones moved that the Government be asked to appoint a Commission, under Section 109 of the Pub-ic Works Act, to decide what portion of the cost of construction and maintenance of the main road from Otiria station to the Hokianga County boundary on the Horeke road, and to the Whangaroa County boundary on the Main North Road, shall be borne by the Councils of the different Couuties using these roads; a'.so that the Commission consider the question of adjustment of cost of maintenance of these roads as between the differerft ridings of the county whose residents use the roads. Kaikohe-M angakahia Road- —The chairman moved that not'ee be sent ,to Messrs Sanders and Shaw to repair the damage done to culverts on the main road from Ngapuhi railway station to Kaikohe by their timber carting, wthin 14 days of receipt of notice.' The motion was seconded by Cr. Robinson and carried. Accounts—lt was resolved that any-accounts not sent in at the time advertised before each meetmg should not be paid before the following meeting,
