Owing to there being no quorum present yesterday . afternoon the meeting of the' Board of Governors of the Whangarei High School was adjourned unftil 'Thursday evening next. The members present were— Messrs W. A. Carruth (chairman), R. C. M. -Haringto-n; F. Kigginson, and E. O. Weaver and the secretary (Mr Jas. McKinnon). A number of .matters were discussed informally . A THROUGH iROAD. Mr Jas. E. 'Holmes notified the (Board that he had roaded a. part of what was known as Dent's estate- His plan- he declared, was founded on the idea that a road would eventual, ly he put through to Alexandra Street opening up Weaver's property. As the Board had purchased the portion of Weaver's land through which the road would go, and a§ such a road would he of great value in developing that part of the borough, he asked the Board if.it would give the scheme consideration, as he wished to dedic&te the road up to the Board's boundary, when handing over to the Borough Council. . FIRE EXTINGUISHERS. Mr K-. R- Macdonald offered to sell some chemical -fire extinguishers to the Board at each. RESIGNATION. Miss B. Grant forwarded her resignation ss Home- Science mistress at the school. — EXTRA ASSISTANT; .. . The Director of Education advised the Board that in view of the special circumstances of the school, the Toll number being near the maximum of the grade, the school being a mixed one -and the class rooms small, the Department was prepared to sanction the employment of an additional assistant of Grade D as requested by the -Board. -Consequently the Department authorised continuation of employment of. Miss Lamb. HOSTEL FEES. It was shown in a report submitted that the cost of groceries for April was £40, butter £22. milk £14, and meat £14- • It' Was .also shown that the hostel was a losing proposition at the existing fees charged will probably become a matter for consideration by the Board to increase the fees. ' !
