A lsirgc representative deputation waiter! upon the Hokiang.i Hospital Board yesterday as a protest against the dismissal of Dr. Smith without mfikiny public any reasons for such dismissal. The board refused to give reasons, whereupon the deputation resolved" itself into a public meeting representing 750 signatures to a petition praying for Dr. Smith's retention. A j resolution was p.-issed recording- a vote of wnnt of confidence in the Hokianga Hospital Board, and requesting that it resign. A further resolution was passed: "That this meeting has unabated confidence i;i Dr. Smith, and will stand by him to the end. ,.
