The service would be by means of an 80fcct son-sledge, capable of carrying 130 passengers and of travelling; 40 miles per hour. The cost of such boats was about £8000 and the cost of running about £2 fis per hour. The Northern Wairoa River would be ideal for the unique boats and all trips would, be by daylight. Mr Atkinson stated that the syndicate lie represented intended to start services on tlie Waikato River and elsewhere. An expert captain was going to America to bring out two of the best vessels for a start, and if the people of the Northern Wairoa wanted one tlio expert could also bring - it out. Either J he syndicate would consider forming a company, or the people affected could form a company of their own. When the two boats arrived in New Zealand, others required could be built locally, the machinery being imported from America.
