ENGINES COLLIDE.
IN RAILWAY YARD
v ONE DRIVER KILLED
WELLINGTON, This Day.
I A collision occurred between two ! engines in the Thorndon railway yard?, which resulted in one driver, J. Hopkirk, losing his life. One engine was going to Lambton Station and the other was about to cross the main lino. Hopkirk's engine was struck ai*>ve th e left cylinder box so forcibly as to throw it off the lines on to its side. The fireman got clear, but Hopkirk was crushed between the engine and the ground, and to injured that he died shortly after his removal to the hospital. Th e signal man, it is stated, saw th 6 engines approaching and gave tho danger signal, but the deceased was on the other side and could not see it. Hopkirk was 50 years of age and leaves a widow.—Press Assn.
