The lectur e on "The Racial Tangle in Europe to be given to-night in the Town Hall Supper Room at 8 o'clock, by Dr Mcllraith, under the auspices of the W.E.A., should draw a large audience. The subject is one of intense interest, and special reference will be made to the present situation in Central Europe.

About fifty guests attended the Druids' euchre social b e ld in the Old Masonic Hall last evening and a most enjoyable occasion eventuated. ' T*he euchre prizes were won by Mrs Benson and Mr Tom Griffin, and the tournament was followed by a dance, th e music for which was contributed by Mr Donnelly.

In the Auckland S.M. Court this morning the firm of Hollis and Wall 3 cordial manufacturers, admitted making a mixture, under the name of "raspberry cordial," composed of nothing more than water, sugar, and red ink or some such aniline colouring. The Magistrate said that the act was very reprehensible, and imposed a fine of £50, with costs.

The Public Health Department's latest returns indicate that the Whangarei district is enjoying far greater immunity from various diseases than many other districts. During the week ended last Monday only one case of diphtheria and one °f enteric fever wer c notified in Whangarei district and the only other notification of infectious disease in th 2 Auckland district was a case of cerebro-spinal meningitis ,in the Bay of Islands.

After discussion concerning the problem of provision of a Soldiers' Club, it was decided at a meeting of. the R.S.A. last evening that it be a recommendation to the executive of the e xisting Soldiers" Club in Rathbone Street, in the event of its winding up, that the furniture be handed to the Hospital, or Kamo Sanitorium in trust until such time as the R.S.A. may decid e upon acquisition of new premises and the establishment of a permanent R.S.A. Club.
