AMUSEMENTS.
LYCEUM,
"DU BARRY."
Theda Bara has interpreted Madame dv Barry's character in a manner which is as delightful and refreshing as it is unexpected. We are prone to regard the famous favourite of Louis XV as having been a strong aggressive, scheming,' ambitious woman—a real power behind the throne. But, in her William Fox production, Theda Bara, while not neglecting this phase of character, paints Madame dv Barry in rath-1 er lighter tones, .emphasising markedly the unconventional and coquettish charaoteristicsr which won the favour of the French King and' held it firmly, despite intrigue and unfaithfulness, to the last.
