CANTATA AT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

MORN OF GLORY."

GIVEN BY COMBINED CHOIRS

A splendid musical festival was rendered last night at the Whangarai Presbyterian Church. The cantata, "The Morn of Glory," written by Dr. Peace, the organist of Edinburgh Cathedral, was given by the combined Methodist and Presbyterian choirs. The cantata is quite modern, and is really more on the lines of an oratorio. Owing to the unusual attractions and engagements of the last few days the attendance was small; but the rendering was so successful that there are plans on foot for a repetition some time after the holidays. Miss Edith Reyburn was the soprano, and Miss I. Spencer the contealto. The tenors were Messrs W. Calder, W. L. Houpewell, and T. Palmer. Messrs Hugh Parker and James Wilson were the bass soloists.

The chorus was good, and the solos were well rendered. The special duet "Let us now go!" by the Misses Edith Reyburn and Eva Cutforth, was particularly pleasing. The quartette, "Holy Night," was given by Mrs E. Reyburn, Miss Hall, and Messrs Hopewell and J. Wilson. "Sleep, Holy Babe," was another acceptable quartette, rendered by Miss Harrison, Miss Cutforth and Messrs T. Palmer and

J. Wilson

The proceedings wer c concluded with the Doxology. The net proceeds are to be devided between the two choirs, and the Presbyterians are devoting their share to the organ fund.

Mr A. Dobson, the conductor, has every reason to be gratified at the success of the cantata, which he arranged so well and genially.
