APONGA.

PRESENTATION.

As per usual, Avhen the residents of Aponga take a matter in hand a successful termination is the natural result, time and money being freely given to attain their desired objective. On this occasion the spontaneous action was to tender a presentation to the local postmistress, Mrs J. W. Langridge, who is severing her connection with the postal work. A social evening was arranged for the evening of the 16th inst., when a large gathering assembled, and spent a most pleasant time dancing, etc. Just before supper Mr H. Carey, "chairman," called upon Mrs R. W. Finlayson to make the presentation, and in so doing he appreciatively eulogised Mrs Langridge's many deds of kindly actions, For the past eleven years she had proved a most genial and obliging postmistress, never once had Mrs Langridge failed to respond to a call on the 'phone, day or night; with some little inconvenience to herself, especially in the days when the telephones were not installed in the private houses as thoy are to-day, and connected up with the Whangarei exchange. The post office hours from I) a.m. to 5 p.m. arc not always convenient for the fanning community, but with an obliging postmistress such as Mrs Langridge had proved, with whom office hours were a secondary consideration our district had their conveniences amply attended to. Mr Finlayson also referred to Mrs Langridge's willingness to help and assist in local entertainments gatherings, and to the efficient manner the librarian's duties were discharged by her. It was to somewhat compensate the guest of the evening for the many appreciated services rendered, that, on behalf of the residents of the district ( that he requested Mrs Langridge to «e----[cept a silver tea not, cream jug and I sugar basin, as a small token of esteem. The presentation was made amidst acclamation. Mr Carey responded on behalf of the recipient who felt unequal to the occasion. Mr Rosanoski supplied the dance music in his usual efficient manner and was kindly assisted by others present. Mr R. W, Finlayson discharged the duties of M,C. in a pleasing style. LOCAL POST OFFICE.
