PRACTICAL MEASURES
LONDON, Aug. 31
The London Housing Board inspected 2,000 large houses with a view to their conversion into flats. A thousand of the houses were scheduled as suitable for the purpose. The Office of Works will undertake their conversion. The Ministry of Health has already approved 1,810 out of 4,398 housing schemes submitted to it, and has passed plans for 15,917 houses. The National Development Company has circularised Irish County and Borough Councils announcing tha,t powerful Irish, American, and Scottish interests hav e .arranged to advance £150,000,000 for Irish housing. The money will be advanced to the councils, and will be repaid by instalments in 50 years. —A. and N.Z.
