MANGAPAI
"WELCOME HOME."
On Friday, 29th ult., a large number of people assembled in the Mangapai Hall to welcome home two more of our brave boys, namely, Pvc D. Graham and Tpr. G. Graham. Owing- to illness Mr G. Graham was unable to attend the welcome. The entertainment opened with th e singing of the National Anthem.
Mr W. Weir, on behalf of the district, presented Mr D. Graham with an address, and gave him a very hearty welcome home. He expressed the regret which was felt at the absence of Mr G. Graham. Mr D. Graham very suitably responded, and on his brother's behalf thanked everybody for the pleasant reception. When the applause had subsided the company sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow," and three hearty cheers were given.
Dancing was then indulged in till the early hours of the morning. The hall was very prettily decorated with greenery and white lilies.
Excellent music was supplied by Mrs Draffin, Mr and Miss McLean, Mr G. Cotter, and Miss McKenzie. M r P. Carter acted as M.C., with his usual efficiency until later in the evening, when Mr J. Miller took his place. During the evening a very nice supper was handed round. Dancing was kept up rather later than usual, owing to the much-needed rain, which came down in torrents.
