THE SAMOAN CALAMITY.
1-IdfIAiLTH POSITION, WELLINGTON, AugU&t 26. With reference to the Samoan epidemic and the responsibility for advising Samoa of the prevalence pf influenza in New Zealand, the Minister for Defence, Sir James* -Allen, stated to-day that though the Public Health 'Department may not have been under the regulations prevailing at the time of the epidemic, direct Irresponsible for communicating the information to Samoa, an arrangement had since been made for them to do so in any re-organisation which miglht take place. It seemed essential that such notifications should be made by the Department of Public Health. This applied not only to Samoa, but aJso to the whole system of worldwide notification of the prevalence of infectious diseases. —Press Assn.
