Mr Jas. Jackson informed the meeting that as a borough councillor, lie had voted against the Bill because he understood that the Bill was linked to the scheme and would give the.-boarcPpower to - spend the money in accordance with Mr Blair Mason's specifications* If at the time he hlad possessed the information which he had now he would not have voted against the measure. As lie underStood it now they were asked to vote for the Bill land the ratepayers would have the power to say if the money should be borrowed. He approved of that and would A'ote for the motion. : , (Loud applause.)
Mr A. H. Mason (Oneroid) sought further, information. If the Bill became law had or had not the board power to put the whole scheme in action?
The Chairman-: "Yes. But you h&vtß t/he right to refuse to sanction it ai ratepayers." (Applause.)
Mr Griffin (Karno) : If the Bill <weriS j>ut, through' and you got anothler 'scheme-' could you spend money oil that?
The chairman, replied certainly with the ratepayers' consent.
