LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Amongst the Whangarei ladies who have sent parcels to the lads at the front is Mrs S. Walker. The other day she received an acknowledgement from the recipient of one of her gifts and strange to say the name of the soldier was Private R. J. Walker.

Boatmen are all busy just now preparing for the opening of the season. Engines are being tested and the paint brush is plying busily in all directions. Crews of sailing craft were busy yesterday. A host of workers were engaged upon the Ngahau. The Rewi is well on with her overhaul and will probably be the first of her class to provide her owners with a genuine sniff of - the briny. The Loloma is also getting into commission. Her colour will be changed this year from light green to white. Mr Lowe's big yawl, which was high and dry last season, is to be an active cruiser this year.
