A French communique says
"In the Oernay-Aillies sector the enemy bombardment redoubled in intensity, and <a violent (enemy attack followed east of Cernay, on a five hundred 1 metre front along both sides of the Aillies-Poissy .road. The enemy pccupiied -a line of trenches evacuated by us. Our artillery played great havoc with the enemy, who was 'unable to push the attack further, despite all efforts."
