AWARDED A MEDAL.
SERGEANT C. McBEATH
Sergeant Clyde Mcßeath, who enlisted in Auckland and went away from New Zealand with the 4th Reinforcements, has written to his father in Whangarei as follows:—
"Just a line to let you sec things are not too bad out this way. Have just landed a. medal. What do you think of this, eh? 1 daresay you will know before this, anyway. Tarn off to "town" this afternoon (being at present in the trenches) to army headquarters, where T believe Bill Massey and some of the heads are going to dish the honours out. Have just come back from a school of snipers—boen there for a few days. Rotten tucker was the worst thing about it. Can smack a stick at a fair distance now, so Fritz had better keep his nut down. I think we have the Huns well in hand qow, as they don't stick their heads over the top too often (not safe). How is the game going in New Zealand. The houses here get a sad run. At present we (the Headquarters Snipers) are living iv a house (more or !cus lowered) between the subsidiary supports; but Fritz hasn't too many shells to waste. Am looking forward to the end of this stunt. Hope it will come sood. ''
